I just finished up being on a segment on HuffingtonPost Live: “If Pope Won’t ‘Judge’ Gays, Will Others?”. You can watch the recording here:

Thanks to all who prayed!

You did a wonderful job on the segment, Mary. It’s unfortunate that HuffPo felt the need to voice almost exclusively anti-Catholic (and, frankly, ignorant) viewer comments to close out the segment. But, I think there were some wonderful things said that, hopefully, will get people thinking.
Personally, I find it so sad that our society’s view of the human person is so very schewed that in discussing the Church’s treatment of the LGBT community, they can only think of the Church’s ban on homosexual sex. A heterosexual person is (typically) viewed as so much more than who they sleep with. Why isn’t the same dignity afforded to LGBT individuals?
I was at the Steubenville NW conference this past weekend in Spokane, WA, and one of the priests who spoke said something so powerful regarding same-sex attraction. In his prayer closing the talk, he said, “Lord, let no desire define the core of who I am.” Obviously, this speaks to much more than same-sex attraction, but that was one of the topics he discussed in his talk preceding the prayer, and I found the quote particularly poignant with regard to that issue.
Anyway, blessings, and keep up the great work!
Thanks, Bethany! I too was a little bummed that the last word went to comments since I had a couple counter-points I wanted to make to certain things people had said, but all in all I was happy with the way it turned out. Always a blessing to be given the opportunity to witness to the faith.
PS – I’m jealous you were at a Steubenville conference this past weekend! This was the first time in a few years I’ve had to miss Steubenville SD 🙂
You did excellent, Mary! I just wish that they let you talk more. 😛
